On my Weigh

Months ago I joined in on Annie's On my Weigh. (button is on my sidebar to go right to her blog.) While I have done fairly well, I for sure have had lots of room for improvement. I don't have a scale and occasionally get out the wii to check my weight, but that is very rare. Last check I had lost 6 lbs...but the check before that was like a year ago. Six pounds a year, not that great!

I've been wanting to go mostly vegetarian for awhile. I've done LOTS and LOTS of research on this subject.  Lest you have doubts whether it is nutritional or not (like the false belief that you cannot get enough protein being a vegetarian) I urge you to do your own research. One of the best places to begin is with Forks Over Knives.

Today we began our new vegetarian lifestyle. I am in wholeheartedly.. Jerry is only in about 3/4 way; but he needs it so I don't care. (LOL, he reads this blog. He'll be getting me for that.)

Wanna see our breakfast?

Lots of pretty colors.

Lots of good help.

Yum.

My daughter did this after PJ was born and she did really well. I don't eat a lot of meat - I don't care for a lot of their tastes. But I do need to 'chew' so all those goodies would be in a salad for me.

I applaud your determination and decision. Yes you can get all you need from vegetables if you eat enough of the right ones. I don't eat a lot of meat, but do like to have it sometimes.

That smoothie looks good, but I would need something a bit more solid in my diet to stay satisfied. I do love smoothies though!

And a six pound loss is much much better than a six pound gain anyday!! Congratulations and good luck!!

There is a great cook book out there, that is vegetarian but for diabetics, when we cook out of that book using LOTS of veggies, my husband lost 30 pounds in 2 months. I didn't lose anything but he sure did. Good stuff too. It is by the American Diabetes Association http://www.amazon.com/Healthy-Calendar-Diabetic-Cooking-Rondinelli/dp/1580401600 We have loved everything out of this cook book too. Just divide it into the servings it says it makes and there you go.

We do lots and lots of fresh fruits and veggies every day and mostly eat them raw because we like the satisfaction of the crunch and munch. I can make a breakfast bowl out of a sliced apple, banana, blueberries, and strawberries and am perfectly satisfied. Cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, radishes, cucumbers .... perfect lunch. We do eat some meat still. I could probably go vegetarian all the way, but I would have to drag my husband kicking and screaming. We have cut way, way back on meat intake. It is a choice every family has to make for themselves, sometimes individuals within a family.

You can get plenty of protein on a vegie diet...legumes, lots of variety of legumes and you can do heaps with all the different beans, lentils, peas and I think they are yummy...and eggs and dairy (if not going the vegan route)...hey even vegans' get enough protein when eating right...it's all in the mix and balance! Good luck and enjoy...
And Fiona's right - glass half full here - 6lbs lost not gained! all good!!...

6 pounds is a good weigh loss... no gain is what is the best part! YES!
Keep eating the veggies! Do you eat any protein? like milk or eggs or cheese?

Hi
Here are two of my favourite recipe sites. Neither is a dedicated vegetarian site but they both have lots of yum recipes.

Good luck with the weight loss.

My doctor really pushes that book. I could probably get by easier than my husband. He comes home and tells me his doctor told him to eat less red meat or meat. Of course in the same sentence he goes like that's gonna happen or I can eat salads with veggies but I want meat. I've been substituting ground chicken or turkey when he's not paying attention. I know I won't go totally veg or all white meat but every little bit helps. One day I'll find a balance.
Good Luck to you on this journey.
